Date:

India’s internet subscriber base increased to 1,114.17 million (111.42 crore) at the end of June 2026, up from 1,092.79 million at the end of March, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The figures were published in TRAI’s Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, covering the period from April to June.

Broadband subscriptions continued to account for most of India’s internet connections. The total broadband subscriber base rose from 1,065.88 million in March to 1,087.50 million in June 2026, registering quarterly growth of 2.03%.

Meanwhile, narrowband subscribers declined by 0.89%, from 26.91 million to 26.67 million.

At the end of June, the internet subscriber base comprised:

  • Broadband subscribers: 1,087.50 million
  • Narrowband subscribers: 26.67 million
  • Wired internet subscribers: 47.73 million
  • Wireless internet subscribers: 1,066.43 million

India’s total telephone subscriber base increased from 1,330.58 million at the end of March to 1,348.08 million at the end of June 2026, representing quarterly growth of 1.31%.

On a year-on-year basis, telephone subscriptions grew by 10.65% compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The country’s overall tele-density also increased, rising from 93.26% in March to 94.31% in June 2026.

TRAI’s quarterly report provides an overview of developments across India’s telecommunications industry and related sectors.

Besides internet and telephone subscriptions, it covers key performance indicators for cable television, Direct-to-Home (DTH) services and radio broadcasting.

According to the Ministry of Communications, the report is compiled mainly using information supplied by service providers and presents growth trends across these sectors.

The increase in internet and telephone subscriptions highlights the expanding scale of India’s digital connectivity. Broadband growth is particularly relevant for access to online education, digital payments, e-governance and other internet-based services.

The quarterly figures also provide an indicator of changes in the country’s telecommunications market.
