In a major step reflecting strong planning and execution, the Ministry of Defence has successfully utilized its entire capital outlay of Rs 1.86 lakh crore for the financial year 2025 to 26. This achievement highlights a clear and focused effort towards strengthening the country’s defence capabilities while ensuring that allocated funds are used efficiently and without delay.
The overall defence budget utilisation stood at 99.62 percent, covering not just capital expenditure but also pensions and other related components. This near complete utilisation shows a high level of coordination among different departments involved in defence management and financial planning.
This milestone reflects a strong commitment to ensuring that every rupee allocated for defence is effectively used to enhance the preparedness of the Armed Forces. It also continues a consistent trend, as similar full utilisation was achieved in the previous financial year as well.
Initially, the capital expenditure was set at Rs 1.80 lakh crore, but it was later increased to Rs 1.86 lakh crore to meet growing requirements. This rise came in response to the increasing need for modern equipment and improved infrastructure, especially in light of evolving security challenges.
A large portion of this spending has gone into acquiring advanced defence systems and equipment. These include aircraft, aero engines, naval vessels, electronic warfare systems, armaments, and other critical technologies. Important proposals related to fighter aircraft, remotely piloted systems, missile systems, and naval capabilities have also been taken forward during this period.
These investments show a balanced focus on strengthening all three wings of the Armed Forces, ensuring that the country remains prepared across land, air, and sea. The emphasis is not just on acquiring equipment but also on building long term strength and readiness.
